This Peanut Butter Bon Bons recipe is full of Rice Krispies and powdered sugar, then coated in a melted chocolate and butterscotch chips mixture for a sweet, crunchy peanut butter treat.

Peanut Butter Bon Bons are an easy recipe to make around Christmas time, Valentine’s Day or any time of the year! These little peanut butter balls are a perfect combination of creamy peanut butter, butter, crispy rice cereal, and just the right amount of powdered sugar then coated in warm, melted chocolate and butterscotch! They are a delicious sweet treat for a cookie exchange or to share with friends and family during the holiday season. The texture of the cereal mixture gives them a satisfying crunch while the peanut butter mixture inside stays rich and indulgent.
I’ve had this Peanut Butter Bon Bons recipe for more than 40 years. Early in my marriage, I always made them for holiday treat platters. Over time, they took a back seat to other treats, but they have always been a delicious go-to whenever I need to share a sweet treat. This classic recipe has been around forever because my husband’s grandma gave it to me. There is something just plain fun about saying you are eating Bon Bons, hehe!
This delicious treat will give you Scotcheroo vibes, but the center is creamier thanks to the added butter.Â

How to Make Peanut Butter Bon Bons
Step 1: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of Rice Krispies with 4 1/2 cups of powdered sugar and stir until well mixed. Please note that for this blog post, I made a half batch of Peanut Butter Bon Bons since this recipe can yield up to 100, depending on the size, and I didn’t need quite that many!

Step 2: In a medium microwave safe bowl, combine 2 cups peanut butter and 1/2 cup butter and melt at 30-second increments, stirring after each cook time, until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Do not over cook.Â

Step 3: Add the melted butter and peanut butter mixture to the Rice Krispie and powdered sugar mixture and fold together until all ingredients are well combined (you may need to use your hand for this step!). Use a small cookie scoop to portion the mixture, roll each portion into a ball, and place on a prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all the mixture is used. Chill in the refrigerator until firm, at least 30 minutes.

Step 4: When ready to dip the balls, melt the butterscotch and chocolate chips separately in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 30-second increments, or use a double boiler on low heat. Stir in 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil to each mixture for a creamier texture and easier dipping. Dip half the balls in each mixture, letting the excess drip off the side of the bowl for a cleaner finish. Place the dipped balls back on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or use a separate sheet lined with parchment paper. Add holiday sprinkles for a festive touch!
Note: When I made the batch for the photos, I combined the melted chocolate and butterscotch chips. That’s why there aren’t any butterscotch-only bon bons. My family thinks mixing the two is the best, so that’s what we went with!

How to Store Peanut Butter Bon Bons
Peanut Butter Bon Bons can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, first chill the finished candy in a single layer until the chocolate is firm. Place in a freezer-safe, airtight container or resealable bag, ensuring all air is removed. Store in freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before serving.Â
