I have had this recipe for a long time, like 30+ years, and have used mini M&M's and regular size M&M's and they are great either way. For the photos, I used mini M&M's because that's what I had on hand that weren't a holiday M&M's! The cookies come together quickly and, depending on the size of your cookie scoop, makes a lot of cookies. I used the smallest scoop when making cookies for photos because I wanted to get as many as possible and I got almost 4 dozen delicious cookies!

How to Make Chocolate M&M Cookies
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. In a medium mixing bowl combine 2 cups + 2 tablespoons of flour, 3/4 cup cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix and set aside.

Step 2: In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer with paddle attachment, cream together 1 1/4 cups softened butter, 2 cups sugar until creamy, 2 eggs and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and mix until combined.

Step 3: Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing only until the flour and baking powder are incorporated into the wet ingredients. Using a wooden spoon, fold in 1/2 cup M&M's. Use a cookie scoop to portion out even cookie dough balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared cookie sheet. Add extra M&M candies to the top of the cookies for that bakery look. Bake cookies at 350° for 8-9 minutes or until the edges are set. The centers may look soft, but they will finish setting as they cool. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. This preserves their soft texture.
