Tater Tot Casserole

Updated: May 30, 2022

The ultimate comfort food courtesy of my grandmother!

When this blog was only being dreamed about, I was in my hometown visiting a cousin who was ill. His sister was doing a lot of cooking for him and the day I was there she was making our grandmother's Tater Tot Casserole. This is a dish I ate many times as a kid when visiting my grandma however I never made it for my family because I didn't have her recipe. Thankfully my cousin was kind enough to share the recipe. When I made it and took my first bite, it transported me back to my childhood sitting in my grandma's kitchen! It's a bit different from other Tater Tot Casseroles, I hope you will give it a try!

How to Make Tater Tot Casserole

This is an easy recipe to pull together after coming home from work! Many of the ingredients are things you may commonly have on hand.

Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion and green pepper (onion and pepper are optional) on medium-high heat until the ground beef is cooked throughly. Drain the ground beef and mix in the can of cream of chicken soup, milk and sour cream. Constantly stir to avoid scorching. Once thoroughly combined, add the cheese and stir until the cheese is melted.

In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, pour in hamburger mixture, add the drained chicken noodle soup and top with tater tots in a single layer.

Bake for one hour until it is hot and bubbly with golden brown tater tots!

I hope you will give my grandma's Forkin' Good Recipe a try!
