This viral candy recipe was everywhere last holiday season, but I didn’t have the time to make it, so I wasn’t sure what all the hype was about. This year I finally gave it a try and Peanut Butter Meltaway Candy is a good one! People claimed it tasted like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. As a huge lover of peanut butter and chocolate, I definitely get the Reese’s vibe, but it actually reminds me more of a peanut butter ball without the crunch from the Rice Krispies. Either way, the combination of peanut butter, chocolate, and that smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture has definitely earned a spot among my favorite holiday treats.

Like most people, I have my signature treats, but there’s something extra special about simple, nostalgic sweets made with pantry staples like this Peanut Butter Meltaway Candy. I’ve made a lot of candy recipes over the years, from easy fudge recipes to chocolate barks, and I always end up coming back to that classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate because it’s just the flavor pairing I love most.

It’s amazing how a few basic ingredients transform into something so rich and satisfying and this one comes together so quickly! From start to finish, including taking all the photos, I was done in about 45 minutes. I used ingredients I had on hand to make this treat that included chocolate almond bark, vanilla almond bark, and Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter and it did not disappoint! It's a perfect last-minute treat because they set up quickly on the countertop and would cool even faster in the refrigerator!

What You Need

  • Chocolate Almond Bark

  • Vanilla Almond Bark

  • Peanut Butter

Tips for Making Peanut Butter Meltaway Candy

  • Use room temperature ingredients; cold creamy peanut butter can cause the mixture to seize or become grainy when you melt chocolate.

  • Whether you like milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, melting wafers, candy melts, almond bark, or white chocolate chips, each option will work.

  • If you want a candy that tastes more like Reese’s PB cups, add a splash of vanilla extract

  • Fill a heavy zip top bag with the melted mixture and squeeze chocolate mixture into a little shape, or use paper cups if you’re gifting.

  • When shopping, look for similar items near chocolate candy or chocolate barks in your store

  • Try piping fun shapes using silicone trays
