Tips for Making Hearty Italian Sausage Pasta Soup
For a spicier soup, use hot Italian sausage, or add 1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.
Sweet Italian sausage may replace the mild Italian sausage.
Choose your favorite small-cut pasta, such as elbow macaroni, rotini, or shells.Â
If you want a more greens, add 1 cup of fresh spinach towards the end of the cooking time.
Serve it with delicious toppings like a little olive oil or a dollop of ricotta cheese!

How to Make Hearty Italian Sausage & Pasta Soup
Step 1:Â In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is nearly cooked through, breaking it into bite-sized pieces as it browns. Drain excess grease.Â
Step 2: In a large pot or dutch oven, add the cooked Italian sausage, green pepper and onion and cook until sausage is completely cooked. With a wooden spoon, stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and mix until combined completely. Â Cover and allow the soup to simmer on medium low heat for 15-20 minutes.Â

Step 3: Stir in the pasta and continue simmering for another 10-12 minutes or until the pasta is tender. Cook for 8-10 minutes if you prefer your pasta al dente. Serve and top with cheese of your choice.Â

How to Store Hearty Italian Sausage & Pasta Soup
Store any leftover Hearty Italian Sausage Soup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. If your soup contains pasta, the noodles will soften over time.
